The Echoplex Delay provides the legendary sound of the EP-3 tape echo module with a fully analog hi-fi path and a simple control interface, including an Age controller to age your repeats. Tape cassettes are not required!
The Echoplex EP-3 tape delay is famous for its deliciously warm, organic modulation and pleasant musical voice - a key component of some of the most iconic guitar sounds since the 70s. The original EP-3 units, however, are expensive, capricious and larger than a VCR.
That's where the EP103 Echoplex Delay pedal comes in. It has a Phase 90 size and provides the legendary EP-3 tone with a simple control interface and a Hi-Fi, fully analog path. The Delay controller sets the time between repetitions - from 40 to 750 msec - the Sustain controller sets the number of repetitions, and the Volume controller sets the output signal level of your repetitions.
However, the sound of this pedal really shines in Age mode. By default, your pedal works like a perfectly calibrated, new tape echo machine - a light and clean tape with subtle wow and flutter modulation. A quick press of the volume control knob allows you to age the repeat sound, darken the tone, increase the saturation of the tape (distortion) and increase the modulation and "age" of the tape when you turn the knob clockwise.
The Echoplex delay also has a tap tempo function with a delay of up to 4 seconds when the MXR M199 Tap Tempo switch is connected.
