With two pickups in one, the EMG 89 has separate preamps and coils for individual humbucker and single sounds. Thanks to the Alnico V magnets, the humbucker sound is rich, warm and powerful, yet as clear and articulate as the EMG 85. The Strat single mode, accessed with the included knob, provides a traditional sound: bright, airy and ringing, very similar to the EMG SA.
In any mode, the clean sound is superbly clean and has great presence. It is used equally in bridge and non-bridge positions. Whether you play hard rock or jazz, you can have it all with this beautifully balanced and versatile pickup.
