The AHB-3b is an active (9 volt) humbucker designed specifically for aggressive playing styles. It is equally good for playing hard rock and any metal styles, including extreme sub-genres and playing in lower tunings. Slipknot's Mick Thomson asked Seymour Duncan to refine their legendary Blackouts series sounds by tuning them to perform complex, crushing riffs played in lower tunings. “I asked Seymour Duncan to turn up the lows because tuning the guitar as low as we do requires more bass. And we've adjusted the high frequencies by slightly changing their cutoff, making them less scratchy and harsh. These pickups are very quiet, very clean and have much more tonal saturation than a typical active pickup. They seem more realistic - the harmonics are richer, we get a more massive sound in a wider frequency range, ”says Mick himself about these pickups.

The EMTY bridge has the energy and power of the original Blackouts, but with a custom voicing, especially for Mick, that further emphasizes the percussive notes played from the palm mute. Each set of EMTY Blackouts pickups includes all the hardware needed for installation: quick connect cables, capacitor, output jack, battery clip and wires. If your guitar already has active pickups with quick-detach cables installed, you can simply unplug them and plug in the Blackouts, without the need of a guitar luthier.
