The Scarlet is equipped with a ceramic magnet with an output signal calibrated to detect notes, while the 8-charge Alnico Scourge provides a modern low-frequency and focused midrange.
Mark Holcomb's musicianship continues to propel progressive metal forward. The sound of Scarlet & Scourge was inspired by his use of high-gain amplifier modeling technology. Due to the fact that his designer provided the perfect sound of the Periphery amplifier, Mark's new pickups required increased clarity for voicing complex chords, separating coils and tuning down. After extensive testing, Mark and the Seymour Duncan engineering team created the Scarlet neck and Scourge bridge pickups. Like Mark Alpha's other proprietary pickup, which is suitable for Mark's heaviest riffs, the Scarlet is equipped with a ceramic magnet, but with an output calibrated to detect notes in pure and medium gain applications. The Scourge with the Alnico 8 magnet provides the low and focused midrange frequencies needed to anchor the Mark's modern sound.
