The genre-defining crunch and howl of a modern heavy rock guitar often comes from active guitar pickups that have a built-in battery-powered preamp sealed with epoxy resin in a completely black case. It has a distinctly modern sound combined with a distinctly modern look. Now, for the first time, you can turn any pickup truck into an active pickup truck, even pickups with a more traditional appearance.

Seymour Duncan has extracted its award-winning balanced differential preamplifier with low noise Blackouts from the pickup and integrated it with a high-quality volume control. The modular Blackouts preamp is an original way to get a high-gain active guitar sound using any passive four-wire pickup. By simply replacing the volume control with a modular Blackouts preamp, you can get a more classic active pickup sound.

To accurately capture the timbre and performance of the original Blackouts pickups, Seymour Duncan created the specially voiced Blackouts Coil Pack, a replaceable humbucker designed specifically for use with the modular Blackouts preamp. The coil set will be available as a separate neck or bridge humbucker or as a set of two humbuckers supplied with the modular Blackouts preamp.

Connecting a coil unit or any pickup to a modular Blackouts preamp is an incredibly simple procedure that does not require soldering, thanks to the same bare-wire connectors used in the Seymour Duncan Liberator pickup replacement system without soldering. All it takes to install the sensors is a mini screwdriver to secure the sensor and battery wires in sturdy threaded clips.
